I hope that reading my book activates your drive to constructive action for the environment and humanity.
My name is Anand Saxena. I worked as a scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory for more than three decades doing research in biophysics. My career was bookended as a professor of physics. Throughout my life, I have been curious about the interactions of biological systems, and increasingly with a sensitivity for the environment and sustainability. My last book, The Vegetarian Imperative (published by the Johns Hopkins University Press in 2011) focused on an appreciation of the broad impact of informed food choices. This book intends to explain to the curious environmentalist the complexity of the disparate systems and constructs that have created conditions for the current state of precariousness with respect to climate change and its vast implications -- and a way forward. As a five-time cancer survivor, I deeply appreciate the opportunity of life, ethical responsibility, and my own personal mandate to reveal and break down the complexities of seemingly intractable conditions and to offer a constructive path of knowledge and empowerment.
Thank you for visiting and welcome to the Enlightened Environmentalism community. I've written this book with you in mind, as well as your children and grandchildren. There's nothing more that I want than to do my part to help preserve not only Mother Nature but also the hopes and dreams afforded by a respectful relationship with nature. As such, I am happy to engage with you to the best of my ability and capacity, so feel free to ask a question or set up a dialogue with your friends for me to drop into via Zoom.
With the help of some young and energetic minds, I hope to set up some resources to regularly communicate with you, either via newsletter or blog. I'll share social media handles as soon as those platforms are set up. These means of communication are not meant to be one way; I would love to hear from you about how this book has affected you, what your reflections are, and how you are choosing to carry the torch of constructive action yourself. Please do share.
