While finite resources of the planet support our existence, how we conduct business and make personal lifestyle choices can be characterized as living beyond these means, resulting in overconsumption, income inequality, unsustainable food demands, overpopulation, degradation of the environment, water shortages, and climate change. Developments in science and technology in recent decades have transformed our lives in many ways for the better but have also created easier access to indulgences of excess that are unsustainable, do not responsibly sync with the capacity of our Earth, and within a our own lifetimes will compromise livelihoods, welfare, and lives around the world.
